A CANVASSING SCHEME.
A LIBERAL RESPONSE. At the meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday, the chairman (Mr G. C. Summerell) said that he did not think that enuugh attention was paid to canvassing country members for donations and that rather too much reliance was placed on the town. There was no doubt that country members would be only too pleased to assist if they were approached. The speaker pointed out that the suoscriptions from the source referred to amount ed to £124 which sum he thought was capable of very considerable improvement. He purposed going into the matter and preparing a list and trusted that members would lend him every pssistance. Members generally agreed with the remarks oi the chairman. The chairman said that he thought members of the Committee present should be the first to move in the matter. A subscription list was ac - cordingly passed around to members and in the space of a few minutes the handsome sum of £l2l was subscribed in the room. The matter of arraning and drawing up a list was left to the chairman to deal with. Mr W.. E. Bidwill was of the opi-ion that a'great'deal more could be done in Wellington. He would be willing to form one of a supplementary committee to pay another visit to Wellington, where he was quite sure their efforts would be rewarded with a liberal response. The uas unanimously adopted, and a committee consisting of Messrs Bidwill, J. D. Cruickshank. and H. Morrison was accordingly appointed.
