Friday. Mr Reid, of Greymouth, £has been appointed postmaster here, in succession to Mr John Brown, who has resigned. Last evening the Catholics of Carterton, headed by the Rev. Father Bowe paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr and Mrs P. Molloy, and presented them with a solid silver egg stand and a silver cake dish aa tokens of esteem on the occasion of their departure fora the district. The gifts were feelingly Unacknowledged by Mr Mollov. Several renewals were granted at tht quarterly meeting of the Wairarapa Licensing Bench held to-day. Transfers were granted from Geo. Harden to Mrs M. Tucker. Club Hotel, Carterton, and from Mi Constable to Mr White, Gladstone Hotel. Permission to use a side room as an extra bar was granted to the licen see of the Club Hotel, Carterton.
