ADVISING THE GOVERNMENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., December 8. The A, and P. Association at its meeting yesterday received a letter from the Minister of Agriculture suggesting that it was very desirable that some person or persons should be appointed by A. and P. Associations as their official representative, with whom the department could confer from time to time in r.gird to proposals affecting the rural com munity r as, for instance, suggested legislation. "It is felt," said the Minister, "that the progress of such matters would often be expedited if the department could take counsel with accredited representatives of A. and P. Associations, Farmers' Unions, National Dairy Association?, etc., and place before them the reasons for any changes that are contemplated, and obtain their practical suggestions as to the alterations proposed and the effects on the interests concerned." A motion appointing Mr J. G. Wilson was lost, a member suggesting that it was not a compJiment to the association that it couM not find one of its own committee men i'~r tt<e position. It was decided to enquire if the proposal applied to each association or of groups of associations. The idea of a permanent representative for consultative purposes was generally approved.
