Tuesday. The weather has been very warm here for the la3t few days—at time of writing it is decidedly hot. Toe stewards appointed for the purpose of taking samples of milk and weighing tame in connection with the dairy cow competition, held under the auspices of the PahiatuaAkitio Argicnltural and Pastoral Association, performed their duties yesterday without a hitch. I understand that one or two of the cows took exception to the presence of a steward, and showed their disapproval by playing up a bit, especially when the vigilant officer proceeded to see that the animal was thoroughly strip, ped. Mr Denny Kelly, manager of the Konini branch of the Ballance Dairy Company, will do the testing on Thursday afternoon next, in the pi-esenee of Mr W. Tosswil), one of the Vice-Presidents, and the secretary, Mr J. A. Walsh. In the meantime it has been decided to hand over the sample bottles of milk to die manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr G. A. Burgess, for safe keeping. Every rink on the Pahiatua Bowling Green was in play on Saturday afternoon last. The weather was gloriously fine, and the ladies showed their of the game by attending in rumbers. The following is the result of the games played for the President's*trophy :
J. Mills, 5 points, beat W. H. Haw,kin3 scr; W. Ransom scr, beat E. H. Petherick 3 point:; T. Hewat scr, biat Geo. Moore 16 points; J. A. Walsh 6 points, beat Father McKenna 16 points. Handicaps for the Pairs Tournament will be declared to-day. Without a doubt bowling ha 3 "caught on" here, especially with the younger players, many of whom are showing excellent form.
Mr J. C. Fowler, organiser of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, for the North Island, passed through here on Saturday.
Mr Warren, of Konini, had a slight mishap while driving home yesterday afternoon. For some unaccountable reason the horse took fright, and began playing up, rearing, plunging and even bucking. M Warren managed to get out of the gig and whilst endeavoruing to release the horse the gig overturned, pinioning Mr Warren underneath for a minute or so. Luckily the horse managed to reorain its feet, righcing the vehicle. Before, however, Mr Warren could secure it, the animal boited. Beyond a little damage to the - gig and a silght shock to Mr Warren nothing serious happened.
