FOXTON SuULLING HANDICAP. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., December 2. Tne first heats of the Foxton JSeulling Handicap were decided to-clay, at Long Reach, above the Wirokino Bridge, Manawatu River. The attendance was not large. The flower of the Australian and New Zealand sculling world took part, and as an adJitional attraction Mr William Beach, the unbeaten champion of the world, was present as umpire. Added to these attractions were a perfect course, both for the competitors and onlookers, and fine weather. The management nad splendid facilities for handling a crowd of 2,000 or 3,000 people. Accommodation was provided for horses, vehicles and motors. There is every reason to believe that the final heats to ba rowed today will attract a much larger get > ering. The following were the results:— First Heat.—S. Kemp, 24 sec, 1; T. Lawson, 60sec, 2; Mitchell, 14sec, 3. Also started—A. S. Green 30sec, W. T. Ogilvie 55sec. Won by a length and a half. Green gave up a mile from the post. Second heat: A. G. Felton, 24sec, 1; R. Green, 68sec, 2; W. Webb, scr, 3. T. G. Green also started. Won by one and a half lengths. Webb WoS two lengths away. Third heat: E. Lar.*en, 20sec, 1; S. Hagney, lOsec, 2; J. Ellis, 45 sec, 3. Won by two lengths.
