From Our Resident Reporter. Friday. The settlers" of Carrington Estate have made application to the Education Board 'for a new school, and the matter has been referred to the inspectors. Tn the Police Court, this morning, a young man, arrested for drunkenness was fined ss. or in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Up to the present time the Carterton Small Birds' Nuisance Society have accounted for fifteen thousand eggs und nestlings. About twenty delegates, representing Masterton, Carterton and Greytown Friendly Societies' arranging the combined picnic to be I sld at Pigeon Bush on Boxing Day met last evening. Bro. W. H. Partridge, Vice-President of " the Carterton Council, presided in the absence of the President, Bro. J. M. Nicholls. It was reported that the four Carterton Societies had agreed to contribute £2 2a each towards the guarantee of £lB required by the railway department for a special train. The Department suggested 8 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.aa the time ior the starting and returning of the train from Masterton and Pigeon Bash. It was decided to suggest that tthe return train leave between o .and 6 o'clock in preierence to 4.30. The matter of giving an approximate estimate of those likely to travel from each centre was left in the jfcands of the secretary. The price of admission to the grounds is to be collected at the
gate. It was resolved to recommend that the starting] hour of tram from Master ton be 9 a.m. The tender of the Masterton South Band was accepted with a stipulation that the number of players'be twelve.
