DEATH BY DROWNING.

The man whose body was found on the beach near Kaiwarawara on Thursday last was Andrew Edwards, married, aged 40, a resident of Khandallah.

The evidence at ths inquest showed that on November 11th the deceased had been drinking. He went home and made himself so objectionable that his wife locked herself in a room. He tried unsuccessfully to break in the door, and then fired a shot through the wall. Slie escaped through a window and spent the light with a neighbour, returning the next day. She found the borne considerably disturbed, and various articles stained with blood.

Dr. FyfFe sail that the uej?a'ed had a gaping wound in his throat six inches *ong and very deep. Death, however, was due to drowning. If the deceased, after wounding I imself, walked to where the body was found (a mile ard a half), it was unexplainable.

A verdict was returned that death was caused by drowning, but there was no evidence to show how the' deceased got into the water
