THE GOVERNOR'S SALARY.
The fact that the Governor's salary was not included in the retrenchment scheme was referred to in the House of Representatives on Friday night. Mr T. E. Tayl jr, who regretted that it had not been possible to effect a saving of £2,000 per year in the sum paid yearly to His Majesty's representative in the Dominion The member for Christchurch North added that it was a deplorable fact that legislators couid not move, while considering the Estimates, for a reduction in His Excellency's allowance, the amount being fixed hy statutory law. He wanted to know why the Governor's salary had not come within she general levelling influence of the retrenchment scheme, when retrenchment was necessary? It should have been fixed at the same amount as was paid to New Zealand's Governor's prior to 1900.
