SAWMILLS DESTROYED. FOUR ACRES SWEPT. SEVEN MILLION FEET OF TIMBER DESTROYED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright, Received November 21, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, November 21. On Saturday there was a fire in Saxton and Binn's mills at Pyrmont, on the western side of Darling Harbour. Saxon and binn's yards covered an area of eight acres. Of this the fire swept four acre?, destroying en ormous stocks of timber, estimated at seven million fee'.. A great quantity of valuable machinery was also destroyed. Saxon and Binn's estimate the damage at £70,000. The insurance only amounted to £20,000. About 4,500 employees have been thrown out of work. A lighter belonging to the firm was also destroyed. Another lighter, the property of the Buckle Company, caught fire, and was scuttled and sunk. Gray Bros., carriers, had seventy horses stabled near the outbreak. These were liberated safely after a scene of wild excitement, carts and harness were djstroyed. The fire was one of the fiercest and most rapid seen in SydneyAfter a hard fight the whole force of the brigades prevented a much more serious disaster. The whole block at one time ap peared doomed.
