PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Oar Resident Reporter) Wednesday. The Fahiatua Cricket Club held a S'Jcces&ful practice on the Recreation Ground, this afternoon. The supply at the Konini (Ballance No 2.) Butter Factury is now about 3,500 gallons of milk per day, and the two highest suppliers, Messrs Thus. Quirk and Thos. Avery are each delivering between 3,400 and 3.Soolbs daily. Both these suppliers are running very well together, Mr Quirk on Tuesday morning being JJOlbs ahead of Mr Avery.

A meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club was held in the Commercial Hotel last evening, Mr W. W. McCardle in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The programme as submitted was approved of. and the secretary reported that it had been forwarded t-j the Metropolitan Club for approval, but a reply had not yet been received from them. A number of improvements have been effected to the cours?, including a considerable quantity of top dressing in readiness for the forthcoming meeting in January. Accounts amounting to £l4 10s 8d were p ,ssed f r payment;. The monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held in the brigade room last evening, Lieut. Wallis presiding. Mr McUulloch, who when in Masterton waa senior foreman of the brigade there, was unanimously electfd a member. The secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Council and asked what had been done in coi.nection with the plans submitted at the lust meeting of the Council regarding the improvements to the brigade shed.

A meeting of the Norrell Social Committee was held this morning, and matter's in connection with the

recent sociU and presentation were settled. It was found that there was j £1 3s 3d over after paying expenses, and the meeting unanimously decided to hand the amount over to the secretary, Mr J. A. Walsh That gentleman, however, declined to take it for his own' use, and stated he would donate it to the Pahiatua High School. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Secretary, Mr Walsh, and the Treasurer, Mr G. A. Burgess. The Education Board's Agricultural Instructor paid a visit to the Paniatua Schoolgrounds, this after, noon, and spoke highly of the work done towards beautifying the grounds. A novelty to be seen at the school is a "punga" fence, three and ahalf chains long, and containing about six hundred "pungas." The work of erecting the fence has evidently been done by a practised workman, and will stand the test of public inspection,

Great preparations are being made in the Theatre this afternoon, for the Masonic banquet, which is to take place this evening. Several visiting members arrived by the express train to-day to take part in the installation ceremony, and a large gathering ia anticipated in the Theatre this evening. The cater ing is in charge of Mr W. Owen, of the Commercial Hotel. Several games of bowls were played on the local green, an interesting one being between Messrs R. Fletcher Wellington), Osburn Lilly and A. Veitch (skip), Wellington, and Messrs E. Petherick, Wakeman and T. Hewatt (skip), the latter party winning by 23 to 12. , It' understand that 24 c tries have been received for the dairy cow competition at the forthcoming A. and P. Show. This must be considered very satisfactory, as the is the first of its kind that has been held in Pahiatua.
