POPULAR PICTURES.

THOMPSON AND PAYNE COMPAQ Y. Each week sees the ThompsonPayne pictures increase in popularity. The excellence of the programmes presented by the proprieto-a has made the Foresters' Hall a popular resort, and nightly the building is crowded to its utmost capacity. The bill of fare contains pictures to suit all tastes. —comic, scenic and dramatic. The latest cinematograph machine is used, being worked by a skilled operator, and the electric light ensures a brilliant picture being thrown on the screeo. Science has obliterated the objectionable flicker in the films with the result that a steady picture is produced that does not hurt the eyes. Messrs Thompson and Payne recognise that nothing but the beat will satisfy critical audiences such as Masterton possesses, and their im p irtations of films contain the lattst triumphs in the cinematographic art. No further proof is requiie.i of this han the programmes which nave be n placed before local pat-ens. It is the enterprise of such an emerge.ic firm as Messrs Thompson and Payi:e that enables resident* of Masterton to view such a beautiful picture as "Scenes in Ceylon," which was again shown at the Foresters' Hall last evening, and received with rounds of applause. "The Bank Note" mid the -various other dramatic studies met with approbation, while the numerous "comics" kept the audience in roars of laughter.

The present programme will be replaced to-morrow night by an entirely new set of pictures, and the proprietors promise some sensations in the art of cinematography.
