DUBLIN CASTLE ROBBERY.
CHARGEIBY SIR A. VICARS. Received November 9,[9.4 a.m. LONDON, November 8. Sir Arthur Vicars, late Ulster King of Arms, writing to the "Times" respecting the theft of Crown jewels at Dublin Castle, says the Government and the Scotland Yard authorise* know the thief, Ibot-do nothing to bring him to account. On Bth. July, 1907, State regalia to the value of fifty thousand pounds was stolen fromlDublin Castle, while in charge of Sir Arthur Vicars. The ViVee«Regal Commission of EnquiJy appointed to investigate the circumstances of the jobbery reported that it had discovered no clue to the perpetrator, tt transpired that nine . keys existed. Two belonged to / Sir Arthur Vicars, Ulster King 0/ Arms, one to the police, and the other was at the disposal of the Office of, Works. During the pre liroinary enquiry it was disclosed that the Government had informed Sir Arthur Vicars that it had decided to reconstitute the office of Ulster King-ofArms, and to remove him from the post. Sir Arthur withdrew from the commission room with his leagl advisers because the enqury was hekLjjrivately, and demanded a fall public and judicial eqnuir-. Subsequently a, Roval Commission was appointed to enquire into the robbery. Is. reported* that Sir Arthur Vicars, Ulster King of-Arms, did not exercise vigilance and proper care in the custody of the jewels; and that the details showed on his part an extraordinary absence of the feeling of responsibility for the safety ot the jewels.
