THE MONROE DOCTRINE.
IN RELATION TO CANADA. Received November 4, 8.20 a.m. OTTAWA, November 3. Sir F. W. Burden, Canadian Minister of Militia, speaking at Toronto, said people who trusted to the Monroe Doctrine for Canadian defence, or thought the United States would assist Canada without a very substantial return, should be dismissed without argument. The Minister added that absurdity could not go further than to imagine that Canada would remain at peace with an enemy of the Empire.
