ASHBURTON SHOW.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
ASHBURTON. November 3. The Ashburton Agricultural And Pastoral Association's thirty second annual Show opened to-day in ideal weather. The entries were two hundred in excess of last year, the increase being chiefly in horses, sheep and cattle, in the order givan. The outstanding lecture of the Show was the excellence of the horse exhibits, which, taken as a whole, are considered by judges in a position to advance an authoritative opinion, to be the finest ever shown in Canterbury, perhaps excepting the Metropolitan Show. The sheep classes were well tilled, but with the exception of the Border and English Leicester and fat lamb classes, competition was not very strong, although the quality was uniformly good. Cattle and pigs were well up to the previous standard, but competition was also limited. Produce and home exhibits made an attractive display, and generally the Show is considered highly creditable, and a record. Although competition from sources outside the county is stronger than ever before the bulk of the prizes were secured by local breeders and exhibitors. The prospects for the secoad day are excellent.
