THE PUBLIC HEALTH.
We would once more impress upon the Government the importance of carrying out the systematic medical inspection of schools, such as is now in force in most civilised countries with the most benecfiial effects, says the Christchurch "Press." So long as the local medical officers are chiefly employed in compiling statistics and carrying out red tape routine in their offices the Health Department will be regarded ■by the public as a useless extravagance. Let it be employed in the prevention of dis ease, especially by attacking it at the outset in the juvenile population, and it will become the most valuable department of State that we possess.
