CRICKET.

(By "Cover Point ")

Mr S. R. Edwards, secretary of the Wairarapa Cricket Association, writes a.i follows:—"Referring to t'.-' no _, published in Monday's "--ax ,'' i'-. :. tivc to the inertness of j mh j .». -it,*., -,-u.ii committee who were B>pp.*'««te*! to grade those players who 'at-e Haw in the junior clubs, and are eligible to play senior cricket, 1 may say that for the satisfaction of those interested it is probahly as well to state that this committee consists of the captains of the various clubs, and Mr iU. uollinge, chairman of the Wairarapa Cricket Association's Management Committee, and the secretary. As the various club captains were only elected at the opening match on Saturday last, it is obvious that the alleged delay on the part of the committee to carry out the duties for which it was appointed is mere imagination. Matters in connection with the classification of players will be considered almost immediately by the committee." In reference to the election of captains, I may state that the captain of. the United Club was elected at the a nual meeting on September 27th, and the captain of the Carlton Club was elected on October 21st, nearly a fortnight ago. Mauriceville's and S.Matthew's captain were also appointed some time ago. Ido not intend to enter into a controversy over the matter, but the committee should have been properly constituted before cup matches started, and players graded according to the facts known to the committee as to players' abilities. That there has been delay no one can deny, and delay could easily have been avoided. It is indeed pleasing news to be assured that the classification of players will be considered almost immediately.
