ARBITRATION AND CONCILIATION ACT.

The Railway Engine Drivers and Firemen's Association is making an attempt to alter the clause in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act which refers to the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, i'l order to merit the recognition of their body, and has presented sevreal petitions to Parliament ' with this end in view. At a meeting of the- Amalgamated Society, held in New Plymouth, the following motion was carried: "That any alteration in the Act would be detrimental to ojr Society, and is contrary to the beat interests of railway men as a whnle." The local branch of the Drivers atnd Firemen's Association resolved: "That this branch strongly supports the efforts at present being put forward, and trusts the clause in the Act will ba deleted, thereby giving justice to the petitioners. It is undertsood the matter comes before the Petitions Committee of the House next week.
