From Our Resident Reporter. Tuesday. The condition of Inspector Hubbard, of the Department of Stock, who was taken rather suddenly ill last week at Lower Valley, is improving.
The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last avening, the Rev. W. J. Elliott presiding. Mr John Brown tendered
his resignation as chairman, and Mr Elliott was appointed to the vacancy. Messrs J. Moore and J. M. Nicholls were appointed visitors for the month. The secretary of the Education Board wrote stating that the Department had deemed it advisable to establish a centra for Civil Service examinations in Carterton. The matter of joining the School Committees' Association being formed in Wellington was left in abeyance. The Headmasters' report showed a roll of 243 in the primary department, the average being 222. In the secondary department there were 31 the average being HO A vote of thanks was accorded to the Rifle Volunteers for granting the school cadets permission to use the miniature range in the drill-shed. It was decided to write to Major McDonald for the rifles. The Belvedere School Committee held their monthly meeting last evening, Mr H, McPhee presiding. The head teachers' report showed a roll number of 60, the average attendance for the quarter being 49.5. During Mrs Larson's absence in Palmerston North, Miss Robinson, of Masterton, is acting relieving teacher. The Education Board wrote that the annual examination, which was to have taken place on Friday had been postponed.
