LONDON MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONERS' REPORT. The Commerce and Tourists' Division has received the following fable.from the High Commissioner, dated London, 16th October, 1909. The mutton market is firm. There is a large speculative demand, and prices have advanced. On account of small shipments expected, and stock being reduced, the market is temporarily excited. Holders are firm. Canterbury is quoted at 4|d per lb, and North Island at 4Jd per lb. Similar remarks can be applied to lamb. Canterbury is quoted at4|d; and North Island, at 4£d per lb. The beef market is weak. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3Jd per lb, and fores at 2gd per lb. The butter market is quiet but firm for best quality only. Australian, this season's, is quoted at 116s per cwt; choicest New Zealand, at 118s per cwt, Danish at 132 a per cwt.; and Sib a rian at 107s per cwt. The cheese market is steady, but demand onlv moderate. New Zealand (a small supply) is quoted at 57s per cwt. . , The hemp market is steady, and there is no change in prices. New Zealand good fair on spot per ton, £27 15s; N.Z. fair grade, on spot, per ton, £26 155.; fair current Manila on spot, per ton, £26 16s; Octo-ber-December shipments—N.Z. good fair, per ton, £27 10s; N.Z. fair grade, £26 10s; Manila fair current, £26 10s. Manila output 32.000 bales. It is reported the American market is firm, with more enquiry for Manila. The wool market is quiet but firm.
