Shooting off with ten others who had scored 286 in the King's prize, Dewar won, and secured the badge, Dorritt, of Paramatta, won the champion trophy for the highest aggregate score, viz., 621. At the Rifle Association dinner, General Hoad proposed the sonst of the "New Zealand team." He said New Zealand and Australia would stand shoulder to shoulder i» the trenches for the intergity of the

Empire. Colonel ' Hughes, responding, thanked the Australians for the good time that they had had in New South Wales. He hoped to see Aust raliatv teams competing in New Zealand's' Empire Match.

SYDNEY, October 16.

At a meeting of the Commonwealth Council of the Rifle Associations it was announced that the Commonwealth Governmont hal placed £2,000 on the Estimates for sending a team to Bisley next year. It was decided, if this amount became payable, to depsatch a team.

It was also decided that rearaperture sights be allowed _in the Empire Match, and that tbe next Empire Match be fired at Bisley. The council expressed the desirability of providing for the manufacturing of the territorial rifle at the Commonwealth factory, seeing that such excellent results had already been obtained with the weapon. This was prompted by fear regarding the construction of a short rifle.

At the National Rifle Association meeting, King, of New Zealand, scored 43 in the final stage of the King's Prize. Dewar scored 40, Clyde 39, and Hadfield 37. Dewar receives £i and the others £3 each. James won £8 for seventh place. In the shoot-off in the Dangar Match, in which Walkem beat Crease by one point. Received October 18, 1 5 a.m. SYDNEY, October 16, The New Zealand team tu tire in the Empire Match is as follows: — Hawthorn, King, Masefield, Guy, James, Halliday, Hadfiel l, Patrick. Victoria wun the Commonwealth Match with a score of 1,654. Queenshid scored 1,646, South Australia 1,643, New South Wales 1,616 and Tasmania 1,615.
