ADVANCE IN PRICE OF MtITTON AND LAMB. Received October 17, 5.5 p.m. LONDON. Octb<er 16. Frozen mutton and lamb has advanced rapidly in price, tl.e low prices having greatly stimulated the consumption ot mutton, and reducing the stocks to a moderate compass. This coupled with light cargoes afloat and the shortage in the Argentine owing to a bad neason has induced large speculation, and much msat is changing ownership. Little mutton and lamb has moved out of store for the retail trade which has not responded to the advance. The following prices are ruling: —Sheep: Canterbury, light, 4£d; medium 4£d, heavy 4|d; North Island, 4 5-16 d; bdst brands, 4|d. Lambs: Canterbury, light 4gd, medium 4Jd, heavy 4Jd; Southland 4f.d.
