DEATH OF A JOCKEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. , John.d'Mpnnejl, a jockey, who was injured, at the Napier Park races at Greenmeattows, yesterday, die-J last night at tne Hospital, without having recovered consciousness.

O'Connell was one of New Zsa land's best known riders, and rode his last race in a hurdle event on Wednesday. During the race Forest fell at the last jump, and brought Corazon with him, leaving Rangihaeta, the favourite, to get home by about six lengths. The rider of Forest, J. JParamore. escaped unhurt, but Corazun's rider, O'Connell, was thrown against the rails. Concussion ot the brain and a tcalp wound resulted. O'Connell was at once taken to Napier Hospital, where, as reported above, hp died later. NAPIER PARK RaCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, October 14. The second day of the Napier Park Racing Club's Spring. Meeting was held to-day. The sum of £4,620 passed through the totalisator, being £1,437 less than the amount recorded on the second day last year. The deficiency for the meeting, as compared with 1908, was £2,050.
