PAHIATUA NEWS.

{From Oar Resident Reporter) Wednesday. The output of the Tararua Cheese Factory at Ballance for its first season, which ended on September 30th, was 77 tons. The daily milk supply at the Ballance Dairy Company's Creamery, at Scarborough, is about 1,400 gallons. At the Konini (Ballance No. 2) Butter Factory 50 boxes of butter are being manufactured daily. A meeting of the l'»hiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association was held last evening, when a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs W. Tosswill, W. Worrell, Captain Whyte and the Sec . reiary, was appointed to canvass the town for donations towards the prize fund. The apprbaches to the bridge over the creek at the Ballance Factory are now crompleted. The bridge is appreciated by the Ballance settlers as they now know they will have no difficulty in delivering their milk to the factory in time of flood. The annual meeting or the Woodville Horticultural Society will be held at Woodville on Friday evening. On Saturday evening naxt, a meeting of those interested will be held at Mangatainoka to consider plans and proposals for the enlargement of the Library Hall, which is now the only placa in which social functions can be held in Mangatainoka. As before stated the work is very necessary, and the mevtment is receiving good support, I understand that a cricket club is to be formed at Makairo this year. This afternoon several games of bowls were played on the local Howling green. Great preparations are being made in connection with the masquerade ball, which ia to be held in Mangatainolca about the end of thw month, in aid of the grandstand funds. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club, last evening, a letter was read from the Secretary of the Racing Conference regarding th'e Wellington Club objecting to the date fixed by the Pahiatua Club (January 12th and 13th) for (heir next meeting. It was stated that the President of the Racing Conference had approved of the dates, and after considerable discussion it was decided to adhere to the dates already fixed, and to furivarJ this decision to the Secretaries of the Racing Conference and the Wellington Racing Ciub, respectively. Messrs U. McSherry, E, B. Hare, V. Prosser and the Secretary, were appointed an Advertising Committee, and Messrs Hate and the Secretary a Printing Committee. PAHIATUA GIJN CLUB. An interesting match was tired on Mr Geo. Oxley's property this aft3rnoon, between a team from the Palmerston North Club and the local Club. The day was lovely and line, and the local Club eucceeded in defeating the visitors by 85 kilh to 78 (clay pigeons). The shooting on both sidea was only moderate, the most consistent shooting being done by Messrs W. H. Hankius, K. Keagle and G. Bycroit for the vistors, and Messrs J. Hughes, G. Gleeaon, S. Pitt, S. Bailey and G. Oxley for the local C.lub. Afternoon tea was provided by the local Club under the supervision of Mrs Oxley. Mr G. McDor.ald, President of the Palmerston North Club, thanked the Pahiatua .Club for the kind manner in which they had been treated and for the pleasant day's outing. Mr J. Breeds, Presi- ■ dent of the local Club, welc >.ned the visitors, and on behalf of the Pahiatua Club, thanked Mrs Oxley for the trouble she had taken with the afternoon tea, which ,'was appreciated by one and all. Cheers were given for Mrs Oxley and other ladies who Jiad assisted.
