TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.
MAN KILLED AT OTIRA ■ TUNNEL. SEVERAL OTHERS INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 12. News has been received here of a terrible accident at the Otira tunnel, this afternoon, W. Dhk, a shift boss, being killed, and W. Rushton, J. S. Jones and E. Gambrazzi, injured. The men were engaged in firing out at crib time, and had lighted some of the fuses. They remained too long preparing others, and the first shot exploded, killing Dick instantaneously. The flying debris struck the othei men in the back while they were retiring. Dick was a married man and leaves a young widow and one child.
