SECRETARYSHIP OF MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.

RESIGNATION OF MR E. PRAGNELL. AN INTERESTING RECORD OF SERVICE. Mr E. Pragnell has resigned the position of Secretary of the Masterton Fire Brigade, after holding the position for twelve and a-half years, and at the meeting of the brigade last evening eulogistic reference was made by several members to the valuable services Mr Pragnell had rendered the brigade in that capacity. Mr Pragnell had always been a courteous, capable and painstaking official, who had always the best interests . of the brigade at heart, and who had ever carried out the hardest of his duties with a smiling face.

Mr Pragnell has had a lengthy career as a fireman. He joined the brigade in April, 1887, and has consequently only about two and a half years to serve to become entitled to a 25-years' gold star. From 1896 till the amalgamation of the Masterton and Kuripuni Brigades he was a member of the latter brigade. He has always taken an active interest in brigade matters generally, and has represented the local brigade at the United Fire Brigades Association's Conference on four occasions. At the United Fire Brigades' Asso ciation's demonstrations in the early nineties he was a member of the Masterton representative team on three occasions. Mr Pragnell does not intend to sever his connection with the brigade, but will continue to act in the capacity of fireman. The brigade last evening appointed Mr H. Pickering to succeed Mr Pragnell as secretary. It is interesting to note that Mr Pragnell took up the duties of secretary on Mr T. Marsh relinquishing the position.
