CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. Trophy firing was continued yesterday afternoon at the Belvedere . range by the local Rifle Volunteers. , Private Whtye secured the highest score for Captain-Surgeon Johnsto- 's trophy, and Private Masson for the one given by Mr T. H. Hughes. Four brethren were declared upon the sick fund at a meeting of Court Marquis of Norrnanby, A.O. F., on Wednesday evening, Bro. A. J. Fisher presiding. An invitation was received to the opening of Court Tamaki on Tuesday next. The order paper for the district meeting and the quarterly balance-sheet for the past quarter were received. Receipts for the evening were £lB 2s 7d, and disbursements £6O 14s 6d. To morrow afternoon the local bowling green will be opened for preliminary play. The official opening -does not eventuate until Thursday | week, A meeting of the Bowling Green Tennis Club was held last evening, Mr E. H. Hawker presiding. It was decided to open the courts on October 21st, when a handicap Yankee Tournament will probably be held. Messrs E. H Hawser, E. B. Hall, J. B. Lawrence and L. Carmine, were appointed a committee, and the"ladie3 are to be asked to appoint a committee, also Mr H. tf'airbrother was accorded a vote of thanks for his past services as secretary, and he was re-elected. Mr Hawker wa3 appointed delegate to the Bowling Green Committee, and "instructed to bring under their notice the necessity uf procuring a new post for the tennis nets, and of raising the existing post to the propar height. The Carterton Football Club has arranged to huld their annual social on Tuesday evening next.
