There ™'as a large attendance of irembers and their friends, and representatives from other clubs were present from Carterton, Pahiatua, Greytown and Featherston, alnd altogether a most enjoyable time was ripent. Many eulogistic references were made as to the attractive appearance of the grounds, the green being in excellent order and very true, although a trifle heavy from the recent rain.
Play was inc'ulgad inun'ilaboit half-past three, when M;. E. J. Rose, the President, prior to declaring the green open made a few remarks. He thought they should consider themselves very fortunate in having such a splendid day for their opening. The greens were in splendid order, a fact which reflected great credit on their caretaker, Mr W. Denby. The Club had now about 80 playing members, besides about 24 honorary members. Nineteen new members were being nominated, and in addition there were a large number of others in view. He urged upon members the importance of increasing the strength o! the roll. The speaker extended a most hearty welcome to the visitors, whose presence indicated the good feeling existing among bowlers. The speaker then called upon Miss Ro3e to throw the "'jack" across the green, which was done, and the season was declared open amid cheers. Play was then commenced on the new green, the members ent°ring into the spirit of the sport with great enthusiasm. The proceedings were erlivened by the rendition of musical selections trom the Reihana Boyes' Orchestra.
