A largely attended meeting of Island Bay residents and property- I owners to-night passed a resolution j protesting against the proposal of ' the Salvation Army to establish a j Prison Gate Home in that suburb. I A deputation was appointed to* i wait on the city Council. | Among the speakers was Mr Justice j Edwards. He aaid be «as the pioneer ! resident of Island Bay. The only roof j he could call his own was ihtre. j Women and children Would not feel safe if the establishment proposed was set up, unless the Army undertook to send a brigade to protect the population, or the police force was greatly increased.
