FIRES.

A ten rooimd housa and ontents, situated at Hampstoad, was totally dcstroyediiy fire last night, duritig the absenec of the occupier The house was owned by H. F. Nicjll, and was insured for £3OO in the New Zealand office. The furniture belonging to J. Smart, the occupier, was insured fur £l5O in the United office WELLINGTON, October 4. A six roomed house at Orangi, Kaupapa Road, Northland, owned and occupied by Stephen Pourie, was burned down this morning. The whole of the contents were also de • stroyed. The house and furniture were insured in the Sun office, th» former for £SOO and the latter for £250. WESTPORT, October 1. Cullum's boot shop and stock was burnt this morning. The origin is unknown, A splendid water Huppiy and smart brigade confined the fire to Cullum's, which is in the centre of the principal business block. The insurance on the buildings (owned by Jas. Powell) was £1,200 in the Alliance.- Cullum's stock, furniture, etc., was [insured for £4OO, divided between the Commercial Union and North British. A fireman named McClay was badly hurt by the collapse of a verandah.
