Saturday. The Prohibition party in the South Wairarapa are going to make a determined effort to secure a victory at the next General Election. A meeting was held yesterday, when a number of proposals were discussed in the interests of the campaign. The total takings at St, Andrew's Church Bazaar far the two days was £142 12s, which will- be devoted to the coat of the social hall now in course of erection.
At a meeting held here last evening, it was resolved to form an Association to be known as the Carterton Fruitgrowers' Partners' and Gardeners' Association, having for its object the matter of dealing with the small bird nuisance. Mr T. E. Maunsell was elected secretary pro tem, and the following were elected a preliminary committee to canvass for members:—Messrs A. Armstrong, Monaghan, Roydhouse, Dud-
son, and F. and T. Cave. It was resolved that the annual subscription be a minimum of 5s per member, members having over fifteen fruit trees to pay 6d per tree, or a maximum of £l.
It i? expected that the new filter beds at the head waterworks will be completed at the end of next week.
