AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB'S MEETING.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Received October 3, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY October 3. The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting opened yesterday in fine but warm weather. Results: — Hurdles Race, about 2 miles— Hermes, 9.9, 1; Kabibinokka, 9.7, 2; Loadstar, 10.3, 3. Sixteen starters. The two first placed horses led all the way. Kairoma never showed in the first part of the race, and gave up at the Dack on the- last round, being apparently interfered with. Hermes won by three lengths. Time, 3min 49sec. Trial Stakes. 1£ mile.—Osiris 1, Motiobel 2, Flavel 3. Seventeen starters. Won by a neck,half a length between second and third horses. Time, 2min ll£sec. A. J. C. DERBY. —A sweepstake of 20 sovs each, with 3,000 sovs added. For three-year old colts, 8.10; fillies, 8.5; no allowance to geldings. The breeder of the winner to receive 250 sovs. The owner of the second horse to receive 500 sovs, and the owner of the third 250 sovs from the prize. One mile and a half. Mr J. Provocation, pulling hard, was first past Hie stand with Hayfield, Grist, Malt vKing, Gidyea and Prince Foote in attendance. At the , mile and a quarter Provocation and Grist were slightly ahead of Hayfield and Prince Foote. The pace was somewhat slow. At the mile the New Zealander and Grist increased the pace, and were followed by Prince Foote. Malt King and Havfield. At the six furlong Patronatus went up to the leaders,, and at the five furlongs Prince Foote fell back to third last. Patronatus and Grist showed the way at the half mile, closely followed by Danilo, Provocation and Prince Foote. In the straight Grist dropped back, Provocation also falling back at the distance. A great race resulted between Danilo, and Malt King. Prince Foote then made a fast run on the outside, cutting down the leaders and winning by a length and a half; three-quar-ters of a length separating the second and third horses. Provocation finished seventh. Time, 2min 37&secs.
Epsom Handicap. A handicap of 20 sovs each, with 1,600 sovs added. For three-year-olds and upwards; Second horse 300 sovs; third 150 sovs from the prize. One mile.— Hyman, 9.2, Callinan, 1; Kyeadgerie, 8.6, Connelly, 2; Maltine, 8.13, Barden, 3. Also started. At the home turn Nuwara Eliya still maintained the lead, with Flavinius J showing out irom Maltine, Hyman and Kerlie. At the distance Hyman came up on the outside, and fought out a battle with Kyeadgerie and Maltine, winning by a neck; a length between the second and third horses. After the placed horses case Nuwara Eliya, Flavinius, Aborigine, Alias, Kerlie, and Golden Slipper. Time, Imin 40fsec. Spring Stakes. —Trafalgar, Barden, I; Lord Nolan, Smith, 2; Togo, Houriman, 3. Eight started. From the mile Linacre made the running, all the way to the straight with I Mountain King. Lord Nolan. MontI calm and Trafalgar in attendance. Once heads were turned for home Linacre gave place to Lord Nolan, Trafalgar and Togo. A great race resulted from the distance, where Lord Nolan was in front, but Trafalgar with a great rush got on terms with him, and after a desperate struggle beat Lord Nolan by half a length. Linacre was last. Maranui and Provocation did not start. Time, 2min 36isec. Kensington Handicap. Loyal Blue, 7 13, 1; Plush, 8.3, 2; Grey Plume, 7.13, 3. Twenty-seven started* Won by a bead.
