At the (Jhurch of the Sacred Heart, Petone, last week, Miss Eva Doherty, youngest daughter of Mi M. Doherty, of Feilding, wag married to Mr Wm. A. Wilton, third son of Mr C. Wilton, of Masterton. John Roberts, the father of professional billiards as it is now played, is to pay a farflwell visit to Australia and New Zealand next year. He will arrive in Australia in April. Mr W. H. Millward, managing director of the Gear Meat Company, Ltd., accompanied by Mrs Millward, leaves Naples per Orient Company's R.M.S. Orsova, on October 20th, and should arrive in Wellitigioo during the last week in November.
Mr Edward John Mulinder, a wellknown storekeeper at Waipawa, died at the Napier Hospital on Friday Inst at the age of 26 years. He was a prominent Methodist. Two years ago he. married Miss Mabel Laws, daughter of Mr ThoS. Laws, of Napier, arid sister of the Kev. U. H. Laws, 8.A., of Christchurch. Mr Gabriel Thos. Wood, a former resident of Taihape, died at.Tauranga on Tuesday, aged 52. The deceased, who had been a sufferer from an internal complaint, has left a widow and five sons and nine daughters. After forty years' official service, Mr John Brown, now postmaster at Carterton, is retiring from his post He began work in the postal service in the north of Ireland, during 1869, and on Ist January, 1877, he entered the New Zealand service, and has continued in it ever since. Mr George R. Hart, chief reporter of the "Press," Christchurch, has completed 40 years of service on that paper. He was entertained on Thursday by the combined staffs of the "Press," "News," and "Weekly Press." His Excellency the Governor, Lord Plunket, will arrive in Wellington this evening. Lady Plunket will visit Hawarden, Canterbruy, for the purpose or inspecting the 2nd North Canterbury Mounted Regiment, of which she is honorary colonel.
