She Lower Valley Jockey Club's i annual .meeting openea yesterday,} at Marti!,' borough, under satisfactory weatiler conditions, but a heavy «bo«er early in the afternoon made* the trac'k slightly heavy. The attendance waO very satisfactory, and some good r.acing was witnessed. Mr F. J. Head, the secretary, ably assisted by the Steward*, carried out their various dutieß in a very capable manner. Good fields were seen cut throughout, and the general opinion is that the Club made a wiise move in; the'matter of alteration of dates for their meeting. Following were the results *— HACK HURDLE HANDICAP, 55 sovs, one inile and a half. J. Russell's b g Sir Lethe, aged, Lethe—Master Agnes mare, lOst. C. Cress 1 W. Davis' br m Yasami, aged, 9.5. N. Campbell 2 H. Hodge's c g Diplomatic, 10.9. J. Lylord 3> Tilson 9.10, Keardon; Silken Rein 9.7, A. McGonnon; Lucretius 9.3, A. Watson; Matira 9.2, J. Hercockj Te Hikaroa 9.0, also started. Froma fair despatch Sir Lethe was first out, and led past the stand, with 1 Yosami next. The latter got to the front momentarily goine to the back stretch, but Sir Lethe, jumping in great style, again took up the running, and easily holding his own won by eight lengths. Time, 3min Isec. (Winner by R. Tilson, and trained by J. Russell). MAIDEN HACK RACK, 45 sovs., six furlongs. ' J. W. Lowe's b f Sea Queen, 3 yrs, St. Ambrose or Grand Circle—Sequin, 7.9. H Kirk 1 H. Catt's bg Te Utuatu, aged, 8.6. T. Catt 2 J. Orr's b g Palestine, 4yrs, 8.6. B. Reardon 3 Epsom Downs 8.6, W. Price; Ngaparua 8.4, W. Ayre; Merry Messenger 8.4, F, Cress; also ran. Sea Queen was first out, but was at one deposed by Palestine, who led into the straight. A slashing finish, with whips out, resulted in Sea Queen winning by a neck from Te Utuatu, with Palestine half a length away third. Time, lmn 22secs. HACK FLYING HANDICAP, 50 sovs, sx furlongs. H. Whitney's c g Bravery, 4yrs, 6.12, N. McDonald 3 T. Kay's b g Merrie Land, syrs, 7.12. E. Lowe 2 A. Tocker's blk in Waiwareware,4 yrs, 8.7. A. Godfrey 3 Skye 8.8, A. Watson; Twinkle 7.13, N. Price; No Trumps 7.9, W. Bennett; St. Brandon 7.5, W. H McKay; Soprano 7.5, H. Kirk; also started. Soprano and Bravery were first to break the line, and the latter led throughout, winning by four lengths from Merrie Land. Time lmin 23 l-ssec. (Winner trained by C. Pritchard.) Kuranui 11.7, F. Seccombe; Retinue 11.7. G. Main; Gibaro 11.0, G. Hirst; Vagrant 11 0, J. Gaisford; Whipcord 10.7, H. Gaifsord; Lady Madcap 10.7, A. Watson; Papa toa - 10*7,. G Shannon; alpo started. Papatoa led past the stand, and Monty took up the running round the back, with Whipcord next, and Atanui close up. Monty and Atanui were the most prominent in the first round, and the latter went out in front at the six furlongs post. From this out he was not troubled, and won by three lengths from Mority, with Senorita, who fell at the last fence and made a good recovery, a close third. Time, 4min 57sec. Aberration 7.71 (including 2Jlb overweight), W. H. McKay; Gaelic 7.3, W. Bennett; also ran. Merrie Zealand, closely followed by Iranui, led from start to finish, and won by two lengths from Iranui, with San Fernando the same distance away third. Gaelic, who got badly away fourth, and Aberration last. Time, lmin 50secs. (Winner trained by J. Kussel). LADIES' BRACELET, 40 sovs, one mile.
