HOSKING MEMORIAL BATHS.

AGAIN BEFORE THE COUNCIL. MATTER TO BE DISCUSSED AT A SPECIAL MEETING. At the meeting of the Borough Council, last evening, Miss H. Gillespie, Secretary of the Ladies' Swimming Ulub, wrote stating that they would, have available for the baths, as the proceeds of the sale of a motor car and freehold property given b.y Dr. Hosking for the pur pose of the oaths, a sum of hot less than £4OO. The Club trusted the Council would favourably consider the question or erecting a smaller bath for this amount. The Mayor suegested that in order to avoil delay and allow tne matter to be discussed the standing orders be suspended. Cr Pauling opposed this course. Cr Morris also objected, and held that if the matter was to be dis cussed it should be taken in committee, i . The Mayor said this was only forcing him to call a special meeting. It was not fair to the Council lors to ask them to attend another meeting when it 7 could easily be discussed at the present one. Further, the matter Bhould not be delayed. Cr Pauling asked if the majority of the ladies were in favour of the Park for the baths. Continuing, he stated ttiat he had been informed that a number of ladies had wanted the baths in Dixon street. He thought the Council could discuss the new proposition better if the meeting ,were held at a later date. The Mayor said that Cr Pauling could vote against the proposal if he wanted 10. All he (the Mayor) desired just then was to allow the matter to be discussed. Cr Ripe also thought Cr Pauling should give way. The motion that the standing orders be suspended was put to the meeting, and Crs Pauling and Morris voted against, it. The motion was declared lost, the Mayor stating that it required a full vote of the Council to allow suspension of the standng orders. The Mayor then cave instructions to call a special meeting to discuss t he question.
