COMMENT BY "THE TIMES." "AN OUTRAGEOUS RESOLUTION." Received September 29, 8.15 a.m. LONDON, September 28. "The Times" says that Mr "LloydGeorge's resolution deferring payment of the local bodies portion of the land tax is one of the most outrageous of the year. It will not be in the interests ot economy, nor serve any ÜBeful purpose that can Ibe named; but will simply hoard jup the money to be scrambled for some day by all the locai interests in che country. The land taxers' theories declares the leading journnl, have utterly broken down. CONCUSSIONS GRANTED.
! Received September 29, 8.15 a,.m. LONDON, September 28. Mr Lloya-George secured the re jection of an amendment by Sir R. Magnup, 'Jr>nservative ' member for London University, to exempt from the new land taxes all land and income, the profits of which were applied to the promotion of education, literature, science or arts. The Chancellar stated that he had already conceded two-thirds of the claim made on behalf of tho public schools. IP THE BUDGET IS REJECTED. WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL DO. Received September 29. 8.5 a.m LONDON, September 28. It is widely believed in Parliamentary circles that in the event ot rejection of the Budget the Government will move an adjournment for a few weeks, re-summoning Parliament in December to consider measures necessary to meet the financial stress, and to pass resolutions strongly condemning the action of the House of Lords.
LORD ADVOCATE'S PREDICTION. Received September 29, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, Seotember 28. Mr Alexander Ure, Lord Advocate for Scotland, speaking at Gateshead, Durham, said he believed the country would, by the Budget proposals, get revenue rising each year until it drew millions a year out of the land without inflicting a particle of injustice on any human being. The people, continued the Lord Advocate, must se tie tie question of the Budget for themselves, and they would have an early opportunity of doing so. Received September 30, 12.5 a.m. LONDON, September 29. The statement that in the event of the Lords destroying; the Financa Bill a general election will be held in January is semi-officially confirmed.
