VIOLENT GALE.
ON AUSTRALIAN COAST. WINE OF HURRICANE FORCE. By United PressAssociation—Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received September 28, 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY, September 28. A whole gale, accompanied by blinding squalls of rain, continues. Some of the gusts attain a velocity of sixty miles an hour. High seas are running. Some steamers, including the Orient liner Osterley, are standing off the coast. Latest reports are that the Alpena's anchors are still holding. Received September 29, 12.21 a.m SYDNEY, September 28. The Warrimoo lost about twelve feet of her port rail through a sea smashing aboard during the gale last night. It was the heaviest storm for seventeen years. The gale is now abating. The Orient liner Osterley made from two to five knots against the storm.
