CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. The Carterton Rifle Volunteers put in shooting practise this afternoon, which also counted for a trophy competition. The members of S. Mark's Church ■ . Choir were entertained this evening by Mr and Mrs W. Howard Booth, the gathering taking the form of an euchre party, , On Saturday a deputation, consist- , ing of the Chief Government Veterinary, the Mayor (Mr A. Armstrong) and Councillors J, A. Dudson, T. J. Rathbone and W. J. Berrill will interview the South Wairarapa County Council for the purpose of urging the Council to allow a portidn of the .more thickly populated part ot the County to be included in an abattoir district in the vicinity of Carterton. Last night an accident occurred near the Black Bridge at the southern end of the town, through the collision of two vehicles. The occupants escaped unhurt, bat the vehicles and harness suffered considerably. The quarterly summoned meeting of the Foresters' Lodge was held last evening, Bro. A. J. Fisher, C R,, presiding. Five brothers were reported to be upon the sick list. The quinquennial report for the period ending December 31st, 1906, was received. It was resolved to have Bro. P. Molloy's photograph reproduced in the official handbook. A framed photograph of the late Bro. T, Harp was presented to the Lodge by his mother, who was accorded a vote of thanks. A donation of £2 2s was made to the Harris Benefit Fund. Bro. J. Nicholls was appointed delegate to the biennial district meeting to be held at Picton in De-

cember. Bro. P. Molloy having resigned his various positions in the Court it was decided to hold a summoned meeting on October Bth. One new member was proposed for in itiation.. The receipts for the meet ing were £4l 5s lOd. and disbursements £7 19s Bd.
