t_ (From Oar Resident Reporter). Thursday. At tie annual meeting of the Mangatainoka Athletic Society to be held on Saturday evening, the balance sheet to be submitted, shows a credit of over £23. The sum of £24 7a 6d was donated during the past year to the grandstand fund. The golf matches which were postponed last Saturday owing to the wet weather—the final for the President's trophy, and the match for (he W.F.C.A. trophy—will be played on the local links on Saturday next. Many truit trees are to be seen in blossom in various parts of this district. A special general meeting of the Woodland's Hunt Club was held in the Commerical Hotel last evening, Mr W. W. McCardle presiding. The following notice of motion was carried:—"That the minute passing accounts for payment at the general meeting held on September 7th be rescinded." A committee meeting of the Club was then held and accounts J amounting to £36 13s 9d, including £6 17s 6d to Mr H. tl. Russill for j the upkeep of 13 noun U t r <v ■ i.d a-half weeks at £1 ss, were passed for payment. Messrs S. V. Rodney and W. W. McCardle were appointed a committee to make arrangements for the keep of the hounds during the off-season. The hounds, 18 in number, are at present being kept by Mr T. Mexted, at a fee of £l 5s per week. A movement is on foot at Kaitawa to form a Rifle Club in that district, and a meeting of those interested will be held in the Kaitawa Hall on Saturday evening. The opening ceremony in connection with the Kaitawa Cheese Factory took place yesterday. There was a large number of settlers pre • sent, and the function was a very enjoyable one. There are two vats in the factory capable of .holding 65.0 gallons each, a receiving can of 60 gallons capacity, and two whey tanks of SCO gallons capacity. The present factory was formerly a creamery and is now being run on co-operative lines. A farewell social is being tendered to Mr and Mrs E. Clarke m St. Peter's Sunday Schoolroom this evening. Mr and Mrs Clarke, who have resided in Pahiatua, for a number of years, are about to reside on a section acquired in the Carrington Estate ballot. Prof. Bert Hepburn, who has been in this district for nearly twelve months, has an advertisement on this page of interest to horseowners.
