ALLEGED BURGLARY.
Just about midnieht last night Constable Brown, who was on night duty heard someone moving about in the rear of the shop of Mr A. White, tobacconiat, and as he went down the lane at the side of the building to m vestigate, he saw two men enter the lane and come towards him The* did not at first notice the constabe and the latter, as the men passed him saw that one of them had something under his coat. The men then discovered Constable Brown's presence and took flight, proceeding down the lane and into Chapel street. The Constable gave chase, and subsequently arrested a young man named A. Langley °n suspicion No other arrest was made, the other man alleged to be concerned escaping. An investigation of the premises showed that an entrance had been Sted by means of the fron: door, and that several boxes of cigars pipes, pouches and cigarettes had been taken, and these were subsequently found in the course taken L the two men ki their flieht. Constable Brown was handicapped in chasing the men, as they were evident y familiar with the exit into Chapel street, and th* course taken by the men was strange to mm.
