SHORTAGE OF BEEF.
NEW SOURCES OF SUPPLY SOUGHT.
Keceived September 17, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, September 16. The New York correspondent of "The Times" reports that the number of cattle received at the various stockyards are a million below the number last year. The American Consul at Monte Video states that Americans who are independent of the Beef Trust are investigating the possibilities of supplies from Uruguay. He calculates that it is possible to land South American beef in New York at 6£ cent a pound.
