MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday. There were present,—Cra W, J. Welch (chairman). i>. Foreman. J. Miller, John Morris, H. C. Toogood, J. Colquhoun, A. Murray, and C. Ktbbell. An apology for absence was receiv • ed from Cr K. H. iketham. Mr Steven Connell. Lansdowne, wrote objecting to the irrigation water race being taken through nis properly until anangments had been made with him as to which portion of his property it was to be taken through.—The matter was referred to the Engineer in charge of the works. Mr J. H. Townsley wrote applying for the position of caretaker of the Opaki and Lansdowne water supply.—Consideration of this was adjourned until the next meeting of the Council.
An application from Mr W. H. Cruickshank for a footpath at Lansdowne was referred to the representatives of that riding. Mr Duncan McLachlan wrote directing the Council's attention to the condition of one of the culverts on Blatchford's Road.—The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer to deal with. Mr Tai Te Tau made application for the high pressure water supply to be connected to his house.—On the motion of Cr Toogood, the application was held over until the next meeting. u Ih3 District Engineer wrote stating that the Minister for Public Works could not see his way to vary the terms of the grant for Riversdale and Uriti Roads, and that the grant lof £I2C for the roads should be paid to the Council on the under I standing that they provide only £SO towards the cost of the work.—On the motion of Cr Toogood, it was decided to make another application to the Department, through Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P. Mr J. McGrath, Kopuaranga, waited on the Council asking for repairs to be effected to the road.—On the motion of Cr Foreman it was decided that the applicant be granted the sum of £2 IDs out of the present year's rates for the purpose,the work to be done under the supervision of the Engineer. Mr Charles Smith wrote asking th« Council to improve and enlarge the roadman's whare at Waterfalls. —The request was not granted. The Public Works Department wrote giving authority to expend £IOO on the Blairlogie-Homewood Road. The Masterton Borough Council wrote asking if the Council had .ac quired the title of the land for the connection of Cockburn Street with Kuripuni Street., and what was the position with regard to the work uf road construction,—lt was decided to have the road fenced and opened up. Mr H G Williams wrote stating that, on behalf of the owners, he was prepared to accept £2O for the piece of land required for the Lansdowne water supply distributing reoervoir.—lt was resolved to accept the off
