WIRELESS TELEGRAPH SERVICE.
A SOUTH AFRICAN SCHEME.
Received September 14. 8 a.m. LONDON, September 13. The 4 .? Daily MailV Durban correspondent states that experiments are about to* be made shortly with a view to establishing a wireless telegraph service between Britain and South Africa. The proposal is to elevate a kite a thousand feet in Cornwall and collect the Hertzan waves. If this is unsuccessful, it is proposed to erect a station at Gibraltar. The cost of each plan would be £50,000. If the scheme is successful, the South African Union Government would grant a thousand pounds per annum, and reduce the proposed general service shilling a word tariff by a penny. A tjrant of £IO,OOO would make the rate a penny a word. Received September 14, 9.15 p.m. LONDON, September 14.
The Right Hon. Herbert Samuel (Liberal M.P.), Speaking at Dundee, said that the political atmosphere was charged with electricity, and none knew what would happen. The nation would never allow an assembly of great landlords to decide on their own motion tor or against these land taxes. (Cheerd.) If the landlords rejected the Finance Bill they would be going ouside the consituation and doing a revolutionary act. , "
