SHIPPING DISASTERS.
FRENCH VESSEL RUN DOWN
Received September 13, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, September 12. An unknown steamer ran down the French sailing vessel Notre Dame d'Arvor, bound for Hobart. The vessel's hold was flooded. Eighty tons of cement w as jettisoned. The Notre Dame d'Arvor has been towed to Falmouth.
THE MISSING WARATAH.
HOPEFUL FEELING IN NAVAL CIRCLES.
Received September 13, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, September 12. Reuter's Capetown correspondent states that the belief is still prevalent in naval circles that the Waratah is afloat. Admiral Egerton, Commander-in-Chief of the Cape naval station, personally superintended the fitting out of the Sabine. The embarkation of a bluejacket searchlight crew caused great satisfaction. It is regarded as ensuring that there will be exhaustive night searches.
LOSS OF THE SLAVONIA
Received September 13, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, September 12. The Board of Trade enquiry into the loss of the steamer Slavonia found that the disaster was due to default and error of judgment on tthe part of the master.
