In the course of his letter Mr Sweeney suggested that the log jump at the Masterton Show should have a collapsible top similar to the jumps at the Manawatu Society's show at Palmerston North. It was decided to consider Mr Sweeney's suggestion when the matter of the revision of the show programme conies up for consideration. Tne Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote in connection with the question of hereditary unsoundness among horses in New Zealand, stating that the Association had discussed the matter with Mr Reakes, chief Government veterinarian, the latter expressing himself as being in full sympathy with the views of the Association. Mr Reakes, however, was still of the opinion that a system of official licensing was preferable to simple voluntary examinations. The Auckland Scoiety desired an expression of opinion from the Masterton Association as to the best method of giving effect to the following resolution passed at the recent conference of Agiicultuial and Pastoral Associations:—"That the Government ap point inspectors whose duties it shall be to examine stallions voluntarily submitted to them and give certificates on tne payment of a fee of £l, if such stallions were proved free from hereditary diseases and defective conformation and the system to be on the lines of the Vjctorian scheme; that the veterinary inspection of stud horse classes at the Dominion Agricultural Shows be undertaken by the Department of agriculture and that no prize be awarded to exhibitois in such classes unless certified as sound by the [qualified veterinary officer." The ' committee decided to discuss the : matter at the next monthly meeting.
