WAIRARAPA AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL HORSE PARADE.
The annual Horse Parade, under the auspices of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society, was held on the Showgruunds, Carterton, on Saturday afternoon Little interest was evinced in the event, the absence of settlers being particularly noticeable. All sections were poorly represented, there being only three thoroughbreds, one trotter, one pony, one hunter and foui Clydesdales, making a total of 10 entries in all.' Mr W. Howard Booth, Vice-President, of the Society, recited the pedigr£e of each horse as it was led into the ring for the benefit of those present. The Secretary, Mr H. S. Moss, had all the arrangements most complete for the parade. | In the thoroughbred class Conqueror, tho property of Mr C Mc- , Cullough, of Masterton, was in ' splendid form. Conqueror is a mag 'n in cent rich bay hoi\ie with great bone and substance, standing 16.2 ; and considered by competent judges to be one of the finest representatives of its class in the Dominion. He is by Medallion from Sieata, and was 1 bred by the late Geo. G. Stead, and j has taken 14 firsts and 13 champion- ! ship prizes, having never been beaten in the Show ring. He was the best : coll; of his year, and hi 3 perform • ances on the lurf are too wellknown to need comment. A glance at the headlines of bis pedigree will reveal the fact that the blood of two of the greatest colonial sires, Musket and Traducer, is in his veins ; —a combination that has never failed to produce racehorsos, ; Other thoroughbreds shown were ! Saracen, St George—Fair Nell, j owned by Mr W. C. Tully, Papawai. and Mr W. Corlett's Boris, Step- ' niak—Shepherdess. | The trotting class was represented Iby Brookholm, Blackwood Abdallah Watlass. The owner is Mr B. Wad ■ ; ham, Carter ;on. ! The only entry in the pony class j was Commodore, by Young King | Cob, dam Shetland mare, owned by jMr H. Montgomery. Masterton. j Wicklow was the only entry in the | Irish Hunter class. He is by Arbitra ■ tor—Flora Mac, and is a fine specimen of hunter. He was imported from Ireland by a New Zealand syndicate at a cost of 700 guineas. He has never been beaten in the Show ring, and has been shown all over Ireland and at the Metropolitan Shows in Australia and New Zealand. He is the sire of Shamrock, the noted carriage stallion of Dunedin, ,who has secured over thirty prizes. Full particulars can be obtained from the owner, Mr C.' O'Brien In the Clydesdale class, Brilliant Boy, hy Mackenzie (3fi6) Kate (819), the property of Mr R. Falloon, was greatly admired. He was bred by Mr W. F. M. Buckley, of Hoon Bay, Christchurch. who is undoubtedly in the ' front rank as a breeder of Clydesdales. Brilliant Boy,is the "'winner of six champion' ships, a record that stamps him as a champion of champions. There is no doubt about his success as a sire, and already his progeny in the Wairarapa give promise of being fit for the Show ring, and show all the quality of the true bred Clydesdales. Full particulars of Brilliant Boy'a pedigree show him to be connected with some of the most celebrated of the world's Clydesdales, and he is the class of horse that at once attracts the attendance of the farmer who desires to breed only the best.
Federation is a very superior well* bred horse of the best quality, and true type of the Clydesdale breed. He is by Callenger—Duchess of Alexandra, and the owner, Mr C. McCullough, of Masterton, will be pleased to supply all particulars on application.
