BUSINESS ENTERPRISE.

A LEADING FURNITURE FACTORY.

The handsome premises in Queen Street, occupied by Messrs U. Hyde and Co., furniture manufacturers and house furnishers, are too well known a land mark to need description, but the cabinetmaking and upholstering factory at the rear (certainly one of the best equipped in the Dominion) are* naturally less familiar. Fitted out as it is with modern and costly machinery, imported from the home of mechanical inventorsAmerica—the factory is enabled to deal with every class of furnishing order that is ever likely tb arise in this community. The capable manager of the firm, himself a clever and ingenious designer of furniture, and splendid samples of the work turned out at the factory are always on view in the Queen street showroom. Scores of houses throughout the Wairarapa I have been furnished by this enterprising firm, every stick of which was designed and manufactured by them. A pleasing originality has always characterised the furniture turned out by Messrs Hyde and Co., but of late with the rapidly increasing demand for old English styles, the public taste has been liberally catered for in that direction. In the northern window of the showroom at present is exhibited a bedroom suite, striking in appearance and magnificently finished, which must appeal, to everyone who looks for beauty and utility in house furniture. The suite is copied from very old English styles, and within two days of being exhibited was disposed of for future delivery. Residents generally should make a point of inspecting this pleasing congregation of bedroom furniture. Similar styles have been adopted in the manufacture of sideboards, tables, hall 3tardp, wash stands, etc., and an elaborate display of these articles made from the best materials are on view. Mr Hyde has introduced some very effective improvements in their construction, without in any way detracting from the original type. In the future Messrs Hyde and Co. intend to import largely the very latest goods in curtains —and some really choice lines have just come to hand. To-day a special display of these goods will be made, and an unusually fine showing is promised. In oilcloths and linoleums the stock will compare favourably with the leading metropolitan houses, in fact the business has assumed metropolitan dimensions from all points. Everything turned out by this firm is executed in a manner that never fails to give satisfaction to the purchaser, in which is associated the best mechsnieal skill, artistic taste and faithful workmanship. Under Mr Hyde's guidance the business must continue to prosper.
