JMr Turton, the newly appointed Magistrate for the Wairarapa, arrived in Masterton yesterday. Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward Heft Vancouver yesterday by the steamer Makura, due at Honolulu on the 17th, and at Suva, on the 27th :nst. Mr T. €. Palgrave M.R.C.V.S., has resigned from the position held by him in the Department of Agriculture as an inspector under the - SI Blightering Act. The Hons. J. Carroll, G. Fowlds and J. A. Millar will go to Auckland at the end of the month to welcome the Prime Minister on his -■ return to New Zealand. The Rev. Father Mahoney, of Wellington, has gone to Nelson to take the Rev. Father Clancy's place. " The latter is to make a collection the archdiocese' on behalf jot the Stoke Orphanage funds. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, left Wellington for the Hawke's Bay district yesterday morning on business con' nected with the Agricultural Department. The only other Minister who is absent from Wellington is the Hon. Dr. Fiodlay. Mr W. H. Georee, managing director of George and Kersley, Ltd., who has been on an extended business tour through Great Britain, France, Germany, and India, arrived in Melbourne on Monday last, and is ' due at Wellington dti (Wednesday - next by the direct Sydney boat. Mrs Johanna Brydon, of Renwiclctown, Marlborough, whose death •was announced recently, had been a resident in Marlborough for 57 years, and a colonist of 67 years' She was 90 years of age ■when she died. Ten children, 72 grandchildren, 124 great-grandchil-dren, and eight great-great-grand children survive her.
The death occurred at Blenheim of •Mr Frank Hall, a well-known busi-1 ness man in that town. The deceased was a son of Mr Wm. Hall, chemist, of the Thames, and in that town he passed his early days. About twenty years' ago he took up his residence in Wellington, where he was employed in one of the drapery establishments. He then went to .Blenheim to manage a branch of a Nelson drapery firm, and afterwards he started in business there on his own account. Xhe late Mr Hall was a very successful athlete, in 4 ' years gone by. He took a great interest in all movements for the advancement of the Blenheim district and was very popular.
