PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. An effort is to he made here to reform the Pahiatua Mounted Rifles and a meeting in connection therewith will*be held on Friday night. There were no bankruptcies in this district during the months of ; July or August. Tho Rev. Griffin, from Dannevirlce, will preach in the Methodist Church on Sunday next, and will hold a service at Kunii'i on Sunday afternoon. The football match for the championship of Hawke's Bay, played at Napier on Saturday last between Ahuriri and Wcodville resulted in a win for the former by 6 points (two penalty goals) to nil. Mr A. McParian3, Chairman of the National Dairy Association, and the Ballance Co-operative Company, will journey to Christehurch to attend a Dairy Conference there. After paying off all liabilities the Woodlands' Hunt Club will have a credit balance of over £4O, and at the meeting last evening the President (Mr Breeds) congratu ated the Club on the nosition they were in. The profit from the Steeplechase meeting held on August 4th amounted to £33 17s. A hearty vote of thanks was passrd to all those who had assisted during the past season. At the conclusion of the meeting the President, presented Mr A. Best, the rider of Tyrannic, who won the numbers' race at the Steeplechase meeting, with a gold mounted liunting crop, the gift being suitably acknowledged by the recipeint. Last week Miss Hettie Bliss, daughter of Mr Bliss, of Woodville, wa3 married to Mr D. P. Scarfe, of Dunedin. Miis A. Bliss was bridesmaid, and Mr Milne, of Masterton. acted as best man. As a ruie in the Wairarapa district the spring season is generally looked upon as being three weeks to a month earlier than in the Bush district. However this season spring is very forward here, and well-known Wairarapa farmer, who has been in various parts of this district of late, states that the grass about here is every bit as forward as in the Wairarapa.
