KANGAROOS v. WALLABIES.

Received September 5, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, September 5. The Kangaroos (the professional team that toured England) defeated the Wallabies (the Australian representative amateur team) by 29 points to 26. The attendance numbered twenty thousand. The game was fast sind closely contested throughout, the Wallabies apDearing to be occasionally at fault with the fine points of the League game.

The annual football matsh between the representatives of Canterbury an Wellington took place on Lancaster Park this afternoon, in the presence of a large crowd of spectators, the gate money amounting to .48248 9s. The ground, though slightly heavy as a result of the recent rains, was in very fair order, and the as played by the Wellington team wasr a very fast and attractive en®, bat the home team's display was very disappointing. The game opened in a manner that looked lise a win for Canterbury, as a smart opening by Burns enabled Weston to score before the game had been going fi*a minutes. Once the-Wellington* team settled down" it was clear that they were a sronger combination.. This was particularly so> with the forwards, who all through the game showed much m>re dash and skill than their opponents. This* gave the Wellington backs soma openings of which they made good use. With their forwards beaten the Canterbury backs got very few chances in attack, and their combination was not what it should have been. Wellington won by 11 points to 6 points.

SYDNEY UNIVERSITY v. MIZ. UNIVERSITY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. ' DUNEDIN, September 41 The football match Sydney University v. New Zealand. University was played on the Caledonian Ground to-day, in splendid weather. The ground was somewhat heavy after the recent rains. The game taken as a whole was uninteresting, and except in the later half of the second spell there was nothing to arouse enthusiasm on the part of the spectators. The standard of football was disappointing, and the game was chiefly confined to the forwards,, in which department Sydney appeared to have the better advantage. The New Zealand team lacked combination, and though the backs got several opportunites their passing was erratic, and little headway was made. The gam 3 resulted in a win or Sydney by 15 points to 5. For the winners tries were scored by Pcfckley, Fisher and Lane, the last one being converted, while Fisher also potted a goal. The New Zealand score was obtained by Dansey after Ongley had beat the opposition. Dai sey akn converted the try.

THE ASSOCIATION GAME.

WELLINGTON v. AUCKLAND.

Tne Association football match for the possession of the Brown Shield between Auckland and Wellington was played here yesterday* andiwas won by Wellington by one goal to nil. About three thousand persons witnessed the match, the weather was fine and the ground in good order.

MASTERTON 111. v. POLHILL 111.

At Newtown Park, Wellington, on Saturday, the Masterton Third team suffered defeat at the hands of the Pollhill Third team to the tune of 23 points to 5. The winners* score was made of six tries, one of which was converted, and a penalty goal, to the losers' convertod try. J. Carmine scored the try for Masterton, and E, Fisher converted it.

WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION.

A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Carterton on Saturday. Present,—Messrs A. B. Charters (chairman), R. McKenzie, B. Chapman, H. McKenzie, E. McKenzie, W. Hart and C. K'eid. Mr E. McKenzie was appointed referee in the senior representative match Wellington v. Wairarapa, to be played at Carterton on Saturday, September 18th. It was decided that the junior representative match Wairarapa v. Wellington be played at Masterton on September 11th, the team to play in Red Star jenseys. It was also decided to play the Manawatu senior representatives at Palmerston North on Saturday 11th inst., Mr J. M. Nicholls -being appointed manager for the trip.
