Mr A. R. Curtis, late part proprietor of the Feilding "St?r," and now a resident of Wellington, has had a paralytic stroke, and is not expected to recover. Mr J. A. Daysh, who has been on the directorate of the Rongokokako Cheese Company since its inception" has tendered his resignation. Arrangements are being made to tender him a social and presentation. The position of organist and conductor of St. Luke'a Church, Greytown, has been offered and accepted by Mr W. L. Wakelin, of Carterton. Mr Wakelin was for a number of years organist at St. Mark's Church, Cartertpn. The "Weekly Scotsman," of July 10th, announces the death, in his 89th year, of Emeritus Professor Wardrop, D.D.. New College, Edinburgh, and makes eulogistic refer ence to his work in his college and in the literary world. The deceased's eldest son is Mr J. H. W. Wardrop, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. b. Smith, who have reaided at Dalefield for the past 25 yenrs, were entertained at a farewell social on Friday last, writes our Carterton correspondent, on the occasion of their approaching departure for Nelson. During the proceedings, Mr James Hodder, on behalf of the settlers, presented the guests of the evening with a handsome silver teaset, and a salad bowl. Mr Smith suitably acknowledged the gift. Mrs Agnes Mary Bradey, wife of Mr Frederick Bradey, J.P., died at Wellington on Saturday morning. Mrs Bradley toook ill with influenza two months ago, ar.d made a promis • ing recovery, but yesterday a relapse took place. The deceased ladv came to New Zealand with her parents ( Mr and Mrs Richard Stuart) in the ship Birman, in 1842, and re • sided at Thorndon till her marriage to Mr Bradey in 1855, when she went to live at Duck Creek, Pahautanui, the road to which then was merely a bullock track through standing bush. Mr and Mrs Bradey resided there for 50 years, and since then have lived in Wellington. The deceased leaves five married sons and four ■ daughters, twenty-six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The married daughters are Mrs C. A. Baker, Mrs J. Varnham (Education ' Board), and Mrs B. Ross (of Messrs Archibald Clark and Son).
